Nootropics

Nootropics are a fancy term for Smart Drugs: pills that claim to improve memory, reverse cognitive decline, and/or get rid of “brain fog.” The term nootropic was coined in the 1970s and since that time there have been many natural and man-made chemicals developed that companies selling them claim will supercharge the brain (without the “high” like LSD or marijuana).

In truth, in spite of all the hype, there still isn’t much proof any nootropic actually works to turn a normal brain into a super-duper thinking machine. Although some ingredients can possibly help with dementia, most studies are on a very small scale and offer inconclusive evidence of their effectiveness. A lot of them just end up giving you diarrhea

Still, since they are generally considered safe and won’t send you on a crazy trip many people use them in hopes of a boost in their smarts. We’ve investigated the ingredients of many of the most popular nootropics and analyzed their claims. Then, we asked consumers who have tried them to chime in on their experience. We’ve collected the best – and the WORST – nootropics below.
