BioCBD Plus is a supplement said to contain cannabidiol (aka CBD) an extract from industrial hemp that they claim is legal, in spite of its association with cannabis (aka pot) and contains very little THC (aka the stuff that gets you high). Instead, they claim CBD has better medicinal qualities than medical marijuana (aka doctor weed) and unlike hemp oil, it’s water soluble so it is more “bioavailable” to the body.
What is CBD?
CBD is a compound found in high concentration in industrial hemp; THC is the compound found in marijuana that gets you high – both are thought to have potential medical uses. Essentially, CBDs and/or THC are thought to react with and stimulate cannabinoid receptors in the human body. This has shown promise for treating everything from anxiety to epilepsy; however, THC in pill-form is the only cannabis substance currently approved by the FDA to treat nausea and improve appetite.
Is CBD Legal?
In case you’ve been locked in a closet for the last few years, you’ve probably heard about the marijuana movement, and that it is now technically legal for medicinal use in 23 States and Washing D.C. At the Federal level, both marijuana and hemp remain illegal although they are trying to pass legislation to make it not so.
BioCD Plus contends because it contains less than 0.3% THC and is extracted from industrial hemp grown in Scandinavia that it is not a Schedule I drug. However, Leaf Sciences, a website that claims to be devoted to tracking news and facts about marijuana contends CBD is still illegal in both the U.S. and Canada.
BioCBD Plus Costs:
$99 with free shipping for a single bottle order of one of their products, which are sold with other botanicals in capsuls for: Digestive Support, Total Body Care, Joint & Muscle Support, and, yes even Fido can get mellow (but not high) with total Pet Support ($54). Multiple bottles offer greater discounts.
BioCBD Plus promises a “Feel the Difference” Money Back Guarantee, which they claim you can return the unused portion within 30 days for your money back, no questions asked. (Bottles after the 30-day supply must be returned unopened.)
Bottom Line: Is BioCBD a Scam?
BioCBD appears to be residing in a very grey area both in terms of its legality and its efficacy.
First of all, it may not be legal where you live, especially if you are not in one of the 23 states. While the Feds are unlikely to break down your door, especially because it’s not a psychoactive drug; however, this could possibly impact you receiving the product or having any recourse should you not.
And while CBD does have some potential for treatments for a variety of ailments including epileptic seizures without the high, the key word is: potential. Studies are still in their infancy. There’s also a rivalry within the medical marijuana community between THC and CBD camps (as well as those who want full legalization).
Then, you have to add in a potential sinister factor. An expose by a group known as Project CBD did a lengthy expose on several companies (Medical Marijuana Inc., HempMeds, and Kannaway) which they claim have monopolized the Hemp Oil marketplace, flooding it with shady and potentially dangerous products – they call it the Hemp Oil Hustlers. (We do not know the company behind BioCBD Plus.)
In other words, it’s a huge, unregulated mess. Not only is there no proven scientific evidence BioCBD Plus or any other CBD product on the marketplace does anything, because there are no standards or watchdogs on the emerging hemp industry, you can’t even be sure what you are getting, in spite of their claims.
Therefore, we strongly advise you to not order any supposed CBD product until there is more clear evidence as to what it does, how it works, and it is certified legal.
