By combining a nutrient extractor, a 7-Day Transformation Plan, and a smartphone app, NutriBullet LEAN promises to help you unlock your “weight loss code” for dramatic results. How’s it work?

In a nutshell, NutriBullet tells us that LEAN precisely extracts nutrients from everyday foods to create MacroBlasts, which are superfood drinks that “tell your body it’s time to stop storing fat.” In the program, you’ll also learn about code-friendly snacks to keep you satisfied, and the included portion plate can help ensure that you’re eating exactly the right amount of food.

Finally, NutriBullet LEAN’s iOS and Android apps can help you plan your MacroBlasts and meals, download custom grocery lists based on your selections, record your progress, and more.

NutriBullet would like you to believe you’ll experience meaningful weight loss with LEAN, and they claim you might be able to accomplish this “faster than you ever thought possible.” Is there any truth here? What kinds of results can you realistically expect? Is there even a “weight loss code” in the first place?

Let’s start with the basics.

How Does the NutriBullet LEAN Program Work?

The NutriBullet LEAN Nutrient Extractor

The LEAN device is powered by a 1,200-watt motor that the company claims will extract “extraordinary nutrition” from whole fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds, and turn them into a silky-smooth superfood drink. This is accomplished using a twist-on extractor blade to “break down, pulverize, and emulsify” your food.

However, LEAN doesn’t heat food while extracting nutrients, so no enzyme destruction occurs during the process, thereby preserving the integrity of the nutrients.

In addition to MacroBlasts (more about this in a second), LEAN can operate in Classic NutriBullet Mode to also make chunky dips, purees, shaved ice, and more. It comes with a comfort lip ring for sipping your MacroBlasts, a travel-friendly to-go lid, and Stay-Fresh resealable lids for enjoying your food later.

What Are NutriBullet MacroBlasts?

Using LEAN’s extraction technology, you’ll create 60-second MacroBlasts. We’re told you simply have to add ingredients according to the directions on the cup since each food group is color-coded:

  • Greens: Green
  • Fruits & Starchy Vegetables: Red
  • Protein + Fats: Blue
  • Freebies & Boosts: Orange
  • Max (Liquids): Yellow

This way, you’ll be able to get “exactly the right foods in the right amounts to stop storing fat,” as well as to keep your body in balance. Or, as the company claims, you’ll unlock your weight loss code by drinking 2 MacroBlasts per day.

The 7-Day Transformation Plan & Companion App

These MacroBlasts will be used in conjunction with the included Portion Perfect Meal divider during your initial 7-Day Transformation Plan. During this time, NutriBullet promises you’ll have access to recipes, shopping lists, and tips and tricks you need to realize your weight loss goals (whatever they might be). Not to mention that you’ll learn how to eat exactly the rights foods, at the right time, and in the correct portions to unlock your “code.”

And you’ll be able to do it all without going hungry or worrying about eating the wrong foods!

During your 7-Day Transformation (and well beyond), LEAN’s app provides several useful tools to improve your chances of success, including:

  • Sunday Set-Up meal planner that can help you organize your week
  • Complete shopping list based on your chosen recipes
  • The ability to build customized MacroBlasts and share pictures
  • Sync data with your fitness app
  • Monitor your progress
  • Receive friendly reminders

What is NutriBullet’s LEAN Boost?

Remember the orange ‘Freebies & Boosts’ label we talked about earlier on LEAN’s cup? This is where LEAN Boost will go when making MacroBlasts, a powdered supplement the company claims will provide the right amount of protein you need to unlock your code.

Boost also contains organic plant protein that can help you feel fuller longer and reduce cravings. You’ll also find “natural metabolism boosters” to optimize fat burning, as well as prebiotics to support digestive health.

How much will you pay for the NutriBullet LEAN system?

In order to request a refund or process a warranty claim, NutriBullet’s customer service department can be reached at (800) 500-0675.

Price aside, the manufacturer makes a whole lot of claims about LEAN. Do they have the science to back these claims up?

Is NutriBullet LEAN Clinically Proven to Deliver Results?

It might be obvious, but it’s important here to make a distinction between the LEAN extractor (the device itself) and the LEAN weight loss program (the entire system, including the extractor). Why?

Because according to NutriBullet’s pre-clinical trial results, participants lost 17.4 pounds over the course of 10 weeks and their base cholesterol levels dropped by 20%, all while increasing lean muscle mass. However, this references the program as a whole—which involves portion control, a mild increase in activity, meal plans, and more—and not just the device.

Here’s the point: It’s no secret that eating healthy foods in proper portions, along with moderate exercise (such as walking), will help you lose weight and in turn improve other aspects of your health. This is especially true if you haven’t provided your body with proper nutrition and/or not engaged in any physical activity for a long time.

But is this really any kind of “code”? Again, this is the basis behind all healthy, sustainable weight loss. It’s certainly not a secret and, in our opinion, doesn’t really represent any kind of code. In fact, you might be able to achieve many of the same results with a third-party blender/juicer, so it doesn’t appear to be specific to LEAN.

Are There Any NutriBullet LEAN Reviews Yet?

LEAN hadn’t been around for very long at the time of our research, so there weren’t any online customer reviews to lean on.

However, NutriBullet manufactures an entire line of “nutrient extractors,” including the original, the Pro, and the Rx. And wherever you look online, most of these models seem to come with favorable customer reviews, with common compliments citing ease of use (including clean up), delicious results with a pleasant texture, and on-the-go capabilities right out of the box.

On the other hand, what few complaints there were appeared to primarily revolve around difficulty obtain repairs/replacement parts for defects covered under warranty. Granted, LEAN is a brand new model so there’s no way to know if you’ll experience any of the same (good or bad).

From a company perspective, NutriBullet had an A+ Better Business Bureau rating, based on 177 closed complaints (as of 7/31/16). Again, many of these appeared to reference warranty problems, along with poor customer service (usually related to warranty issues).

Is NutriBullet LEAN Your Silver Bullet for Weight Loss?

According to NutriBullet’s pre-clinical study, the LEAN program helped participants lose an average of 17.4 pounds over the course of 10 weeks or about 1.75 pounds per week. This falls in line with the CDC’s recommendation of 2 pounds per week for healthy, sustainable weight loss.

But here’s the thing: There are literally hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of different programs out there that can also help you lose healthy weight and keep it off for the long term. Comparatively, is there anything special about LEAN? Here’s where personal preference largely comes in.

In other words, have you been interested in “juicing,” but have no idea where to begin? If so, by bundling a nutrient extractor and a 7-day weight loss jump start together, the LEAN program could be just what you need to get off the ground. On the other hand, if you’re looking to lose weight but don’t necessarily like the idea of drinking your way to health, then NutriBullet LEAN—or any other juicer, for that matter—might not be what you need.

What about J.J. Virgin’s endorsement of the LEAN program? While she’s a well-known nutrition and fitness expert, we always recommend choosing a fitness or weight loss program based on your needs, not based on the word of a paid celebrity spokesperson.
