HotDo from Plymouth Direct is a hair wrap that comes in 11 different colors that they promise will allow you to “rock” different styles instantly. They tout the “Real Feel” fiber looks and feels just like your regular hair and no one will know you are wearing one. HotDo promises to work with all hair lengths and can even be worn during workouts.
How HotDo Works
HotDo appears to be an elastic type of hair band that is covered in strands of “multi-blended” fake hair designed to look fashionably messy. To use HotDo, they instruct you to wrap it in with your real locks (a Style Guide is included for inspiration). In seconds, they claim thanks to HotDo your “boring” hairdo now has volume and/or flair!
HotDo Sells For:
$24.94 each, listed as $14.99 plus $9.95 shipping and handling on the website. HotDo comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, minus those S&H fees and what it costs you to send it back. It also should be noted that when you click “process order” you are signing an arbitration agreement, which prevents you from suing Plymouth Direct or joining a class action lawsuit should someone laugh at your hot new ‘do (or worse).
Bottom Line: Is HotDo a Scam?
HotDo may make you look like a “hot mess.” We wonder, tho, what’s HotDo made of? It says “Real Feel” fiber but customer service was unable to elaborate.
Remember, if you try HotDo and you don’t like it, you’ll still be out $9.95 plus whatever it costs to ship back.
Also, when you buy HotDo, you are giving Plymouth Direct permission to solicit you with other products. They may call you, email you, or send you advertisements in the mail. They say from “time to time” they may give your information to “reputable” third parties as well. (You can opt-out, but you need to visit their Privacy Page and click a few links.)
Finally, this is an “As Seen On TV” product. Generally speaking, these tend to hype themselves to the consumer and then disappoint IRL. Plymouth Direct currently (November 2014) has no rating from the BBB. The BBB explains this is because they are “in the process” of responding to previously closed complaints, listed as 116 in the past 3 years.
These are just a few things we think you should consider before buying HotDo.
