Epil Egg is a product from Telebrands that promises it is a quick and easy removal system for unwanted hairs anywhere on the body. They tout Epil Egg has 15 surgically-precise tweezer heads that attract hair like magic and will pull the hair out from the root, resulting in smooth skin that lasts for weeks.

What Exactly IS an Epil Egg?

Epil Egg is essentially a fancy name for a tweezer-type of epilator seemingly inspired by Telebrands’ best selling product the Ped Egg. Epil Egg is white and oval like an egg and comes with the 15-tweezer head along with a single-tweezer and shaving head attachment.

Epilators like Epil Egg work by mechanically yanking out individual hairs as the spinning head is moved across the skin. They can be electric or cordless, as well as battery operated (it is unclear what powers Epil Egg and customer service said they had no information as the product was still new as of July 2015.)

Epilating can be effective, but can be painful especially on first use. Sometimes the tweezer can break a hair off instead of pulling it completely out, resulting in a bit of stubble. Hair that is pulled out from the root does take longer to grow back than a shaved hair, but it is a myth that pulling hair out this way results in permanent hair removal (or, conversely, causes hairs to grow back thicker).

Epil Egg promises it is less painful than waxing, faster than tweezing, and safer than shaving.

How Much is Epil Egg Going to Cost Me?

Epil Egg retails on the website and in the infomercial at $19.99 plus $7.99 shipping for a total of $27.98. At the time of your order, you can purchase another Epil Egg for an additional $9.99 processing for a total of $37.97 for 2 Epil Eggs.

Telebrands Epil Egg Return Policy

Epil Egg comes with Telebrands’ standard return policy, which requires you to contact them within the first 30 days. If you do return the product, you should know that a) Telebrands will keep any and all processing fees b) you will have to pay to ship Epil Egg back and c) you must include a “detailed” explanation as to why you are returning the product or they could refuse your request.

Bottom Line: Is Epil Egg a Good Way to Remove Unwanted Hair?

We couldn’t find any independent customer reviews of Epil Egg. There are a few things we’d still like to point out to you.

First, we’re not really sure what kind of batteries it takes. You may want to call customer service at 1-855-668-1655 to double check.

Speaking of customer service, Telebrands does not have a very good reputation with consumers. We’ve been watching their BBB rating take a dive from an A to an F after the state of New Jersey sued them in 2014 for violating their Consumer Fraud Act. Telebrands denies these allegations and currently they have a C rating due to 1240 complaints being filed with the BBB in the past 3 years.

Best Purchasing Options for Epil Egg

If you are thinking about buying Epil Egg, we recommend waiting until it is available online at stores like Amazon or Target or on the shelves of your local store that has an “As Seen On TV” aisle. In spite of the fact that they say their offer is not available in stores, a trade secret is that 90% of Telebrands’ sales are done via retail, not over the web or on the telephone. (P.S. the price will likely be cheaper.)

Alternatives to Epil Egg

The list of hair-removing products and methods is extremely long. A lot of it is personal choice – if your skin is easily irritated you might prefer using a razor or hair removing solution like Nair. Over time, your skin will likely get used to epilators like Epil Egg; they tend to work best in conjunction with lotion. (According our customer reviewers, stay away from Yes! By Finishing Touch or the NoNo Pro.)

Finally, we’d like to point you to a website by a woman named Denise who calls herself Epilator Girl and has devoted a considerable amount of time to this “plucky” question. She has articles like Epilators – The Pros Cons and Costs and selects the Phillips HP 6401 as the best cheap epilator that works great.
