Celebrity Hour Glass Shaper from Tristar Products is a waist training belt that promises you will become “sexy in seconds” once you slip into and zip it up. They promise Celebrity Hour Glass will make you look 2 sizes slimmer instantly and is virtually invisible when worn under your clothes, so you can wear it anywhere to smooth rolls and bulges.

What they Claim Celebrity Hour Glass Shaper Does

Celebrity Hour Glass touts it is made from Thermo-Tex Shaping Fabric and has 360 degrees of comfort that compresses your core as well as straightens your posture, slims your waist, and supports your back. They add it has 3 rows of hooks and eyes for the perfect training fit.

In other words, Celebrity Hour Glass Shaper is the modern version of an old-fashioned corset worn by women (and men) to give them a more shapely figure.

Celebrity Hour Glass Shaper uses the word “celebrity” in the title to perhaps associate with celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba who have taken numerous selfies wearing similar bulge-busting devices.

Celebrity Hour Glass says you can wear it everywhere you go, from the home to the gym to the office to the club. If you wear it underneath your clothing, they state it is virtually invisible and will make you look more shapely and appealing.

Waist Training: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The waist training fad has skyrocketed in the last few years, thanks to Ms. Kardashian and crew, which has a few upsides but many downsides.

First, the good: wearing a waist training device for short periods of time may give you a little more confidence, be it at the office or cocktail lounge. It may also help you stand up straight and serve as a reminder to eat a little bit less.

Now the bad: wearing a waist training device during workouts can be unhealthy and possibly dangerous. Constricting your movement and/or lungs can prevent you from taking deep breaths or having a really good workout. This can lead to dizziness or fainting as well as cause acid reflux.

“…if you think about it, when you're wearing something like that, you're scrunching not just your stomach, but you're scrunching your organs so think like your digestive track, your intestines and everything so it can certainly effect your digestion," said Becky Fox of Fox Fitness for a story on the dangers of waist training from WTSP News

And here’s the ugly: excessive sweating from wearing these devices can also lead to back acne. Yuck!

Celebrity Hour Glass Charges How Much?

Celebrity Hour Glass Shaper says on the website that it’s Buy One Get One for $19.99; however the fine print reveals that they charge you $7.99 in shipping and handling fees per belt. This makes the true total $35.97 for two belts (one Blue and one Purple).

Celebrity Hour Glass Shaper Guarantee

Celebrity Hour Glass comes with a 60-day money back guarantee, no questions asked. However, it should be noted that this is only for the original $19.99, not the $15.98 in fees (plus you have to pay to ship it back).

Bottom Line: Is Celebrity Hour Glass a Good Way to “Train” My Waist?

As we mentioned earlier, wearing any waist trainer for short periods of time (like to squeeze into a cocktail dress) may be ok. We couldn’t find any specific reviews of Celebrity Hour Glass as the product was still new when we reviewed it in July 2015. However, if it’s similar to Genie Hour Glass (also sold by Tri-Star) consumers on our website have complained it takes a long time to ship and is made of cheap material.

One more myth we’d like to bust: you can’t “train” your waist to be smaller. While it’s true there are women who have cinched their midsection so tight they have a tiny waist, but they wear these devices around-the-clock. Once the waist trainer is removed, your waist will return to its normal shape.

“Medically, it doesn’t make sense that cinching your waist tightly will make it permanently smaller,” says Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., clinical professor of ob-gyn at Yale School of Medicine for an article about the dangers of waist training for Women’s Health.

To sum up:

  • Wear waist trainers only occasionally for confidence.
  • Never wear while working out.
  • There have been complaints of long shipping times and shoddy materials for similar products sold by Tristar.
  • If you are interested in a “waist trainer” we suggest buying in person at a store where you can try it on and see if you get the figure you desire.
  • If you have difficulty breathing, take it off!
